JUKE JOINT WOMEN!!! JUKE JOINT WOMEN!!! JUKE JOINT !!! Juke Joint Women is an all-female Blues Revue. They hold true to the tradition of the original juke joints and deliver powerful, action packed shows. Each woman sings a different style of Blues. During the first part of the show, they perform cover tunes from some of our famous and beloved Juke Joint Women—one women covers Tina Turner, another covers Etta James, and another covers Denise LaSalle. In the second half of the show, they sing other popular Blues tunes as well as their original songs. The world-renown Sandra Hall performs as herself. She performs all over the world and regularly in Europe. She belts out powerful performances in the style of Ruth Brown. She takes control of the stage from the minute she steps foot on it and doesn’t relinquish that control until the very last note. Her performances are theatrically outstanding. The audience is part of the show when the Juke Joint Women are in the house. Their shows are upbeat, high energy, funny, and interactive. The pulsing rhythms and the funky grooves are hard to resist, so it’s hard to stay in your seat at their show. The Juke Joint Women show is guaranteed to please a wide array of audiences. They are comfortable singing at festivals, theaters, nightclubs, colleges, private parties, and corporate settings. The Juke Joint Women show has been described as a modern-day version of an old-fashioned juke joint because they provide an authentic blues experience, musically transporting you to another time and place. Where ever they go, they keep it real…’cause that’s what the people want. Their motto is “Juke Joint Women ain’t scared!” You can believe that. 1:00      KATE MORRISSEY

                                                               Athens Ga.

The Kate Morrissey band includes Kate Morrissey on vocals and piano, Charles Harvey on acoustic bass and cello, and John Norris on drums and acoustic guitar.  Together, their sound blends elements of classical, folk, jazz, and pop into a rich sound that can sweep a crowd into its vibrant energy and soul.
Kate Morrissey is a wandering songstress. From her childhood on the rolling hills of rural South Dakota through Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and now among the Southern bohemia of Athens, GA, she is perfectly at home behind her piano. But Morrissey is best known throughout this corridor for her dark velvet voice whose range and control stands on its own. Beyond her uniquely clean sound, Morrissey’s literate lyrics stand up to multiple listenings. Her sharp wit and an off-beat sense of humor punctuate her conversational live shows with plenty of surprise.
Charles King Harvey was born in Kingsport, Tennessee, and began his musical career playing bluegrass music with his family.  He later attended the Blue Bear Waltz School of Rock ‘n Roll in San Francisco, returning to Atlanta in 1974 to play acoustic bass for the local jazz group Unit Structure. He moved to Athens and earned a bachelors degree in music education and a master of performance in double bass.  Harvey has performed with such greats as Eddie Harris, Dave Holland, and The Bob Hope orchestra. He has performed in the bass sections of the Savannah, GA and Chattanooga TN, regional symphony orchestras, and served as the musical director and conductor of the Sun Coast Symphony Orchestra. He currently tours out of the Atlanta area.

3:30 JUBAL KANE

a raw, song-oriented approach to the blues, reminiscent of Mayall's Bluesbreakers, Muddy Waters and Stevie Ray Vaughn. Featuring the electrifying trade-off of Ace Anderson on harmonica and Otis Thomas on lead guitar....its throwback, rough-edged sound makes it one of the more vital blues acts in the country." Chris Humpage, Savannahnow.com

"The Allman Brothers at their bluesy best, and you've got an idea of the down-and-dirty grit of a Jubal Kane show. It's all swagger and bombast, the blues as interpreted by Bo Diddley and John Lee Hooker at their meanest."  Steve Wildsmith The Daily Times, Maryville, TN.

"a throwback to the days when Peter Haycock, old Fleetwood Mac, and Muddy Waters were first recording their bare and intimately raw blues." earbuzz.com about Jubal Kane's Debut Album Live Blues.

"You really don't wanna miss this blues band, from the hot harp playing to the gritty guitars. They are the shit."  The Empty Glass, WV.      Read More................

Lola (just Lola) is a dynamic blues and R&B singer/keyboard player who has been igniting stages in the Atlanta area and is just beginning to break out as a national artist.  Blessed with a deep soul voice, a funkified keyboard style and an intense, high energy stage presence, Lola combines traditional blues with hard-edged R&B to create her own brand of contemporary, tough music.

Lola was born in New York and grew up as a "military brat" in Oceanside, CA before her parents moved to Mobile, AL.  It was there that she began sitting in with her father's funk band, playing trumpet and drums before switching to keyboards. Stevie Wonder, Donnie Hathaway, Jimmy Smith and Joe Sample were her key piano influences, along with her father's favorite, bluesman Amos Milburn.   She worked her way through college playing in three different Mobile churches, absorbing a huge dose of gospel influence that you can hear every time she sings. Her other vocal inspirations include Aretha Franklin, Bonnie Raitt, B.B. King and Stevie Wonder. Read More

FRED BOLTON

Frederick Bolton was born in Talladega, Alabama, to the Rev. A.C. and Vera Mae Woods Bolton. He grew up attending Church where his father pastored. At an early age he developed a passion for music and singing and taught himself to play and master many different instruments. He states, that he has been singing and playing music since he was nine years old.

The Bolton’s had a gospel group called “The Boltonetts” and sang and played at Churches and concerts around Alabama.

Later Fred sang with many Gospel groups, eventually forming his own called
“The Anointed Ones”. Gospel music was spiritually rewarding, but Fred found it hard to make ends meet as a mature young man with a family to support.
So he began playing with R & B Bands to subsidize his income.

It was at an R&B performance that he came to the attention of Wilbe Records.
After months of negotiations and meetings, he was finally signed to Wilbe.

As Fred states “Music is my life and as long as my heart is pure God understands my intentions!” My songs are about Love, Life and positive living. With that attitude and frame of mind, Fred Bolton will have a successful  and blessed career singing R&B or any music he desires.     Fred & Lola Courtesy of Wilbe Records...........

King, Bobby Blue Bland, Aretha Franklin, Al Green, and many other legendary artists. Willie's career was influenced at an early age in Albany, GA by his father Homer Hill, well known gospel pianist/vocalist. He was also greatly influenced by the 1950's WLAC Memphis, TN AM radio shows who played artists such as those he later performed with. Willie admits, too, "As a child I listened mostly to country radio; that's all we had - a lot of Hank Williams, Hank Snow."

Willie Hill's career began to blossom in the mid 60's when he landed a 3-year tour through Europe with the Sounds of Soul. They backed up and performed with Aretha Franklin, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, and many more. His first real recording began in Macon, GA at King Studios (James Brown's first studio). He was then discovered and began a recording career at MGM - Sounds of Memphis where he worked with William Bell of STAKS Records.

This brought Willie into working contact with artists such as Isaac Hayes, Steve Cropper, Booker-T & MG's, and many others. From about 1973-1977, Willie also co-founded and produced K.C. and the Sunshine Band. He then joined with soul singer Anthony Fontaine and formed a Sam & Dave-like soul duet, "Willie & Anthony". Together they released three albums: "Grooving on Sunday Afternoon," "Selfish Lover," and "In a Mellow Mood." Blues and Soul Magazine gave their highest 5-star rating. PAT COOLEY

Atlanta Ga.

Our conversation began with Hermon reminiscing about travelling with Major Lance and Joe Tex back in the 70’s little knowing that songs such as Yes You Did were being played on the Northern Soul scene during the time he was touring!

He was born in Philadelphia on 7th June 1943, which means that we share a birthday, which made us both laugh at the coincidence. He moved down South firstly to Georgia then Jacksonville with his brothers and mother after she divorced. His first opportunity to sing came when his mother used to take him to church and she would encourage to stand-up and sing songs such as “The Lord’s Prayer” which he would receive dimes and quarters for from the congregation.

Hermon says from very early on he wanted to be a singer and even made his first guitar, which was a pick-up box, which he put together and would play around his home. However, his first real break into music came when he got together with some school friends at Matthew Gilbert High School in Jacksonville to start a group called the Stereophonics. The leader of the group Lloyd Perry thought Hermon’s rich baritone would be a perfect foil for his tenor and asked him to join the group. Hermon paints an atmospheric picture of him Lloyd Perry, Robert Sampson, Emmanuel Simpkins and Marvin Johnson practising their singing techniques. He told me how they would hang out in local parks and under streetlights until the early hours before going to school next morning. They would continue to practise during the school recess and after school when crowds would follow them home singing and dancing down the street.

Al LINDSEY

                 Saginaw Mi
There's nothing like good ol' R&B to set your mind, body and soul at ease after a hard day or week on the job trying to round up a few dead presidents to make ends meet. No, there's nothing like that down home, understanding feel you get from soul music-especially the variety with a bit of southern flavor. And. lest you think that's a taste you can't get here up north, feast your ears on the latest from Saginaw, Michigan's own superstar Al Lindsey.

Born in Gordonsville, Va., Lindsey moved to Michigan at an early age and has been a fixture on the music scene there since he was a 17-year-old gigging around Detroit. A stint as a medic in the military led him to pursue a career in the medical field, first as an EMT/paramedic with the Detroit Fire Department. After earning degrees at the University of Detroit Mercy and University of Nebraska, he took a job as a physician's assistant at Aleda E. Lutz Veterans Hospital in Saginaw, where he currently now serves. Through it all, however, he's never abandoned his music career nor his southern roots.

Critics' Pick
Timeless: Best Local Blues Act: Danny 'Mudcat' Dudeck

The blues is a universal feeling that transcends languages, social status and the constraints of musical genre. DANNY "MUDCAT" DUDECK knows that feeling intimately. He travels the globe spreading his version of the blues gospel and regularly works with a number of international blues-preservation organizations. Lucky for us, he gets back to town most weeks to play the tiny Northside Tavern. Whether performing solo, leading a smokin' band or a tight, one-off jam session with a founding father or a group of novices, his soulful and emotive delivery evokes images of the hard times that fed the early blues pioneers. And Mudcat's Bayou-baked, chicken-party revues can make even the most jaded music fan happy to be blue.
